Turning Rejections into Strength: Lessons from Interview Challenges

Over the past year, I’ve attended several interviews, advancing to the third stage for roles like Senior Contract Project Manager and Planning/Cost Engineer (Expert Position). Reaching this level confirms I’m among the best Nigeria has to offer, and being considered by a company willing to pay in USD (like other foreigners) shows I’m being noticed by the right people.
I also presented to the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) for Engineer of the Year, showcasing my IPPCS Software innovation. Additionally, my team and I successfully defended the ISO 9001:2015 audit.
Surprisingly, I was interviewed by two asset owner companies (even when I had given up on asset owner companies) — one indigenous and one IOC. Although I received a rejection after a three-stage process, I’m grateful for the opportunity.

3. Market Value: Interviews help you understand your worth. Knowing that a company is willing to pay about 50,000 USD to a Nigerian in Nigeria per year as an employee for a non-manager role is satisfying.
These experiences have made me stronger, and I’m thankful for them.
