The Realities of Agriculture and Manufacturing in Nigeria

Dear Industry Colleagues and Partners,

Let me share my thoughts on agriculture and manufacturing. In my opinion, these sectors are tough without capital. Nigeria is a country where it’s challenging to access a sizeable loan unless you’re making six figures in NGN a month.
If you work in a typical food manufacturing or agricultural firm, there’s a high chance you may never accumulate enough money to venture into entrepreneurship without wealthy parents. Let me be honest with you: I believe agriculture and manufacturing businesses in Nigeria are largely reserved for elites from wealthy backgrounds, as you can rarely make substantial money as an employee.
If you want to start something but lack a privileged background, the best industries in Nigeria, in my view, are Oil and Gas, IT, and Management Consulting. These are the three sectors where people are more likely to make money as employees. If you’re passionate about agriculture or manufacturing, you can earn a salary and invest in your passion on the side.
But the question remains: why should I make money in oil and gas as an employee and then invest it in agriculture? I would rather stick to the industry that’s providing my income and leverage my hard-earned experience there. That’s my opinion.
