Dear Industry Colleagues and Partners,

Following a recent post I made on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) (https://www.linkedin.com/posts/georgenwogu_cngconversion-bifuelsystem-petroltocng-activity-7241706726360571905-4FPs?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios, Link), I was approached with an opportunity to partner on a CNG project as a potential project manager.
While awaiting further developments, I decided to deepen my understanding of the CNG value chain, leveraging my previous experience with Nigeria LNG (NLNG), one of the finest organizations I have had the privilege to work with.
CNG is becoming a pivotal element in Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy, particularly within the transportation sector. The CNG value chain is comprised of several key stages, each driven by significant players and critical assets:
1. Production & Processing
- Key Players: Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), Shell Nigeria
- Key Asset: Gas Processing Plants — Facilities where natural gas is purified and prepared for compression.
2. Compression
- Key Players: NIPCO Plc, PowerGas Nigeria
- Key Asset: CNG Compression Stations — Sites where natural gas is compressed for ease of transportation and distribution.
3. Transportation
- Key Players: Axxela Limited, Nigerian Gas Company (NGC)
- Key Asset: CNG Trailers & Pipelines — Infrastructure for transporting CNG via high-pressure containers or pipelines over long distances.
4. Distribution
- Key Players: NIPCO Plc, Green Fuels Limited
- Key Asset: CNG Filling Stations — Retail stations where CNG is dispensed to vehicles, facilitating its use in the transportation sector.
5. Vehicle Conversion & Support Services
- Key Players: Autogas Africa, Green Fuels Limited
- Key Asset: Vehicle Conversion Workshops — Facilities that convert traditional gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles to bi-fuel systems capable of running on both CNG and conventional fuels.
6. Consumers
- Key Users: Public Transport Operators, Logistics Companies
- Key Asset: Bi-fuel Vehicles — Vehicles equipped to run on both CNG and traditional fuels, contributing to reduced emissions and operational costs.
By strategically managing these assets across the value chain, Nigeria is positioning CNG as a sustainable and cost-effective fuel alternative, driving progress in the energy and transportation sectors.
