Redefining My Career Path: White Collar Turned Blue

Dear Industry Colleagues and Partners,

While my academic background in Engineering laid a solid foundation, I’ve never truly identified as a white-collar professional, a term often associated with office-based roles, managerial tasks, and theoretical frameworks. Instead, I gravitated towards Project Management and Primavera, fields that reflect a more blue-collar ethos.

Over the years, I’ve been privileged to work with multinationals — Indians, Italians, Americans, and other Africans — in roles where my impact was valued more than my resume. Some didn’t even ask for my CV or pay into PENCOM (Nigerian 401K), typically associated with white-collar roles. They needed solutions, and I simply delivered. No hard feelings about the lack of pension contributions, especially with inflation eating away at those funds.

Blue-collar work, defined by hands-on, practical efforts that directly impact project outcomes, resonates more with my approach. My journey has always been about solving real-world problems, not just theorizing. Titles don’t define us — our impact does. That’s why I’m not a typical white-collar; I’m a blue-collar at heart.
