Navigating Resistance in Forensic Cost Control

Dear Readers,

When I was brought into a role at an upstream company to implement forensic cost control, I quickly realized the complexity of the task. The case of Montego Upstream Services Limited highlights the challenges many organizations face in managing financial accountability.

Montego embarked on the journey to ensure financial discipline and cost control, but ironically, it is Ardrend Limited that seems to be reaping the entire benefits. Montego is now grappling with the fallout of alleged financial mismanagement, with over ₦130 million reportedly diverted by employees through price inflation and kickbacks. Despite resistance, Montego is committed to recovering the funds, with the case currently in court.

This situation underscores the importance of strong governance, thorough oversight, and unwavering accountability in the oil and gas sector. Implementing cost control measures isn’t always popular, but it’s essential to safeguard an organization’s financial integrity.

Though my terms with Ardrend have now concluded, I wish them continued success in their endeavors.

“Resistance is inevitable, but so is progress when you remain focused on the goal.”
