“Mastering” Construction Management: My Journey through 5 Learning Paths and Exams with LinkedIn Learning 🏆👨‍🎓👩‍🎓

--

Dear Newsletter Subscribers,

Amid the pandemic, I completed 5 learning paths and exams in Construction Management. Each learning path comprised approximately 8–10 courses, with each course containing about *8–10 videos*. While working with NLNG, I recognized the need to deepen my knowledge in Construction, aspiring to become an expert in the field. To clarify, the distinction between a Learning Path and individual Courses is crucial. The Learning Path process is rigorous and demands a substantial time investment to complete each one.

Impressed by the Project Management Institute’s (PMI) release of PMI-Certified Practitioner (PMI-CP™) certificates for Construction professionals, I thoroughly studied the course outlines, even try to ask PMI New AI Assistance and checked for relevant Project Management Institute Standards, None is visible (PMBOK-Construction Extension has been removed from the portal for the marketing of this) on the PMI Portal, so I finally give up. PMI-CP™ signifies “Project Management Institute — Construction Professional in Built Environment Projects.” However, I firmly believe that no other online course can currently match the comprehensive content found in the 5 learning paths on LinkedIn Learning courses in Construction Management for me.

While LinkedIn Learning courses may lack the “prestige” and Credly badge found in the Generative AI Course by PMI, which I compared with Microsoft+LinkedIn’s own — the latter being more in-depth and both being free.

The 5 Construction Management Learning Paths I completed were:

1. Advance your skills in Construction Estimating

2. Staying Ahead in Construction Management

3. Get Ahead on Construction Trades

4. Becoming a BIM Coordinator

5. Staying Ahead for Sustainability and Green Building

My picture from 5 years ago at the EPC Fabrication Yard, collaged with an AI Picture. We established the yard, relocating from Rumuokoro to Iguruta, Port Harcourt, Nigeria. I served as a Senior Planning Engineer at Pivot-GIS for Exxon-Mobil Project.

In my view, PMI-CP™ falls short in content and information compared to combination of these, except for its “prestige.”

Moreover, as these are my sentiments, every attempt to reconnect with PMI seems to lead to amusing incidents. On three occasions, on WhatsApp during the PMI Port Harcourt, Nigeria outreach, I was cautioned for posting my online business card. In the LinkedIn PMI-USA Houston Chapter group, I was removed for sharing a project management article, just as I was previously removed from the PMI Nigeria LinkedIn group. Perhaps, I humorously thought, God doesn’t want me to align with PMI because I know too much. 😂🤷🏽♂️🏆
