Dear Industry Colleagues and Partners,

Inspired by the recent presentation from Shell Nigeria’s General Manager, I compiled this brief newsletter on essential KPIs for enhancing safety, reliability, and sustainability in our industry. You can view the presentation [here](https://www.linkedin.com/posts/georgenwogu_we-were-honored-to-have-the-general-manager-activity-7255843912190214144-H4rF?utm_source=share&utm_medium=member_ios).

These KPIs are particularly relevant for integrated equipment management and asset owners, especially at the OPERATE Stage of the asset life cycle.

Safety KPIs:

1. Total Recordable Incident Rate (TRIR): ≤ 0.5 incidents per 200,000 work hours

2. Lost Time Injury Frequency (LTIF): ≤ 1.0 per million hours worked

3. Safety Training Compliance: 100% of employees trained

Reliability KPIs:

1. Asset Uptime (Availability): ≥ 98%

2. Mean Time Between Failures (MTBF): Increase year-over-year

3. Maintenance Compliance (Planned vs. Unplanned): ≥ 90% planned maintenance

Sustainability KPIs:

1. Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Emissions Reduction: ≤ 10% annual reduction

2. Energy Efficiency (EUI): ≤ 0.3 kWh per unit of production

3. Water Usage Reduction: ≥ 15% reduction per year

Conclusion and Call to Action

To enhance operational performance and sustainability in the oil and gas sector, integrating these KPIs is essential. As I consider a role that offers the opportunity to develop a COO balanced scorecard for asset owners (unlike EPC COO), https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/oil-gas-epc-coo-balanced-scorecard-overview-magic-3-4-george-7cnhf/, I encourage stakeholders to implement these metrics.
