From Project Planner to COO: A Journey of Growth

Dear Industry Colleagues and Partners,

When you aim to be a project planner, you might not always be qualified to become a Project Manager — the most coveted role in the Nigerian Oil and Gas EPC sector. However, when you set your sights beyond the role of Project Manager or Planner to becoming a COO, you may still find yourself in Project Manager interviews — qualified because you are striving to exceed the expectations of a typical role.

This year, I have interviewed for several key roles:

1. Planner/Cost Engineer (Expert Position)

2. Senior Project Controls Engineer

3. Contract Project Manager

If successful, each of these opportunities could significantly improve my life. On the positive side, every interview has been a valuable learning experience, enhancing my skills in my current role.

As the year ends, if these companies choose not to engage me now, they may find that by the time they reconsider, I will have already secured a contract for my company and no longer need a job. If I am as capable as they suggest, based on these interviews, I should win a tender by next year. If not, I don’t deserve these roles, and I have failed as a COO.

Engr. George Nwogu,

COO, BIZVILLE PROJECT MANAGEMENT Limited
