👏 Empowering Through Experience: A Journey of Growth and Mentorship

--

Hello Medium readers,

I’m thrilled to share a transformative experience from some years ago when I faced a significant challenge transitioning from a staunch Oracle Primavera trainer to a Senior Planning Engineer role. Utilizing manpower for planned progress and steel tons for actual progress, I expected seamless alignment, but unfortunately, a critical oversight cost me the job.

🔍 Acknowledging Mistakes: This was a humbling lesson, taking full responsibility for the oversight. The inability to find answers during that crucial time led to the loss of the job.

💡 Key Lessons:

1. Importance of Mentorship: Recognizing the impact of the absence of mentorship on decision-making.

2. Resilience and Learning: Despite the setback, the experience became a catalyst for personal and professional growth.

3. Recognizing the Value: When approached for training opportunities, it’s crucial to acknowledge the investment in knowledge acquired through past challenges.

🌐 Moving Forward: Today, fueled by this experience, my commitment to mentorship and continuous learning aims to benefit others from shared insights. Transitioning from a Primavera trainer to the planning role has shaped my perspective and approach.

📊 Measuring Progress: There are different metrics to measure progress, and we can’t be comparing apples to bananas. It has to be apples to apples. Quantity for Quantity, not Manpower for Quantity.

  • This is not “Power BI”, this real life “failed Dashboard” that cost someone his job when he could not explain the gap between the plan and actual progress trend submitted to the ASSET OWNER.
  • I knew when I was called ‘incompetent,’ but that was definitely not recently. I may have faults now, but incompetence is not one of them.
