COO Dashboard: From Garrett Morgan(of Traffic Control) to Modern Dashboards
Dear BIVILLEPM Community,
The traffic light, as we know it today, was invented by Garrett Morgan, an African American inventor, in 1923. Morgan’s manually operated device featured three positions: Stop, Go, and an all-way Stop position for pedestrian safety. His invention greatly enhanced road safety and traffic management. The adoption of color bands — Red for stop, Yellow for caution, and Green for go — became standardized internationally over time to promote consistency and safety in traffic control systems.

Recalling your usual variance and trend analysis, they are not the same. This among all, is what we represent in Project Controls Dashboard as well as the COO Dashboard. We need to draw relevant stakeholders’ attention by the position of each dashboard component and the traffic light color scheme.
That is what I keep telling my team: “Power BI is not the dashboard secret; it’s me. The human element is the ultimate joker to the success of creating world-class reports”.
Quote me anyway; “I, like one of my good COO/Project Director, will still be rocking my Microsoft Excel (unless Power BI is explicitly required) for productivity and scalability’s sake; no time for nonsense.”
