Best Practices for EOT Duration Calculation

--

Dear BIVILLEPM Community,

I was using the combination of Time Impact Analysis (TIA) and measured mile analysis as common sense without even knowing.

In our ongoing quest for project excellence, it’s vital to follow industry best practices, especially when calculating extension of time (EOT) durations. Recently, a question arose about the methodology for determining EOT entitlement, leading us to examine established guidelines from the Association for the Advancement of Cost Engineering International (AACEI). This method was applied intuitively, and we’re exploring its alignment with best practices with AI assistance.

Question:

“When I calculated the EOT duration we’re entitled to, I simply totaled the downtime for delay EOT claims and assessed productivity for disruption EOT claims to estimate our entitlement. With various delay analysis methods available, which one does this align with according to AACEI?”

Answer 1:

The described method aligns with AACEI’s approach for calculating EOT entitlement due to delay and disruption claims. It involves aggregating delay EOT claim downtime and analyzing productivity for disruption EOT claims, combining both aspects to determine overall entitlement.

Answer 2:

This method is often known as the “Combined Method” or “Total Time Analysis.” It blends elements from Time Impact Analysis (TIA) for delay claims and measured mile analysis for disruption claims, providing a comprehensive assessment of the project’s delay and disruption impacts on the schedule.

In essence, the intuitive application of this methodology reflects adherence to best practices advocated by AACEI. By embracing these standards, we ensure accuracy and fairness in our project assessments, fostering a culture of excellence and professionalism. Note: The above discussion highlights the importance of aligning our practices with industry standards to uphold the integrity and efficacy of our projects.
